String of Turtles

Peperomia prostrata

Tropical & indoor plants · Planned variety

Meet your green friend.

String of Turtles has tiny rounded trailing leaves patterned like turtle shells.

Why you’ll love it

  • Shell-like leaf markings reward close-up viewing.
  • Short trailing stems can spill over a small pot rim.

A space where it can thrive

Grow year-round in a warm Metro Vancouver home, near suitable daylight and away from cold window glass, exterior-door drafts and heating vents.

Ask about availability

Availability, size, pot and price will be confirmed in store. Pictures illustrate the plant type.

Indoor hanging plant

Growing in a hanging basket

Let light reach the small leaves on top of the basket. Use an airy mix and let the surface dry before watering; avoid a constantly wet crown.

Use a container with drainage and a secure support rated for its fully watered weight. Check moisture at the root ball and empty collected drainage water.

Your care routine

Light

Bright indirect daylight near an east or west window; filter strong summer afternoon sun.

Watering

Allow the upper 2–3 cm to dry before watering thoroughly and draining; fleshy leaves and stems are vulnerable to overwatering.

Soil & drainage

Free-draining indoor potting mix with perlite; use a pot with drainage holes.

Fertilizer

Use a complete liquid houseplant fertilizer about monthly while actively growing in spring and summer, at the product label rate. Pause in dim winter conditions or whenever growth stops; do not feed a dry or stressed plant.

Temperature

Aim for 18–26°C indoors; protect from sudden temperature changes and cold drafts.

Humidity

40–60% is a useful indoor target; keep clear of heating vents.

Through the seasons

During darker Metro Vancouver autumn and winter days, check moisture before watering and lengthen the interval as growth slows. Reassess daylight in spring and repot only if roots crowd the container.

When your plant needs help

  • Yellow leaves with persistently wet compost can indicate root stress.
  • Fine stippling or webbing can indicate spider mites; inspect leaf undersides.

Pets & little ones

Safety information needs confirmation; keep out of reach.
