Scarlet Star Bromeliad

Guzmania lingulata

Bromeliads · Planned variety

Meet your green friend.

Scarlet Star Bromeliad has glossy strap-leaf rosette with bright red central bracts. The flowered rosette gradually declines while offsets develop at its base.

Why you’ll love it

  • Red central bracts stand out above glossy strap leaves.
  • Offsets can continue the display after the parent rosette flowers.

A space where it can thrive

Grow year-round in a warm Metro Vancouver home, near suitable daylight and away from cold window glass, exterior-door drafts and heating vents.

Availability, size, pot and price will be confirmed in store. Pictures illustrate the plant type.

Your care routine

Light

Bright filtered daylight; keep colourful bracts out of harsh summer sun.

Watering

Keep mix lightly moist and draining; refresh any central reservoir regularly with fresh water.

Soil & drainage

Loose bromeliad or orchid-style mix in a small draining container.

Fertilizer

Use a bromeliad-suitable liquid fertilizer about monthly in active spring/summer growth, at the product label rate for bromeliads; apply to the root mix, not a concentrated dose in the central cup. Pause during slow winter growth.

Temperature

Aim for 18–26°C indoors; protect from sudden temperature changes and cold drafts.

Humidity

Moderate humid air with circulation; avoid stagnant enclosed positions.

Through the seasons

The flowering rosette slowly declines after its display; retain it while offsets develop. In cool dim winter conditions keep the root mix less wet and avoid stagnant central water.

When your plant needs help

  • Stagnant water can cause crown rot; refresh rather than continually topping up.
  • Scale insects can hide at leaf bases; inspect new plants carefully.

Pets & little ones

Safety information needs confirmation; keep out of reach.
