Dendrobium Orchid

Dendrobium nobile

Orchids · Planned variety

Meet your green friend.

Dendrobium Orchid has upright segmented canes with oval leaves and pink-white flowers. Flowering depends on healthy roots and the appropriate seasonal growth cycle.

Why you’ll love it

  • Segmented upright canes give a distinctive orchid silhouette.
  • Flowers can appear along mature canes after a suitable rest.

A space where it can thrive

Grow year-round in a warm Metro Vancouver home, near suitable daylight and away from cold window glass, exterior-door drafts and heating vents.

Your care routine

Light

Bright filtered light; protect leaves from hot summer sun through glass.

Watering

Water generously as medium approaches dryness during active growth; reduce substantially when canes mature in autumn.

Soil & drainage

Airy orchid bark in a small draining pot; do not bury cane bases.

Fertilizer

Use a complete liquid houseplant fertilizer about monthly while actively growing in spring and summer, at the product label rate. Pause in dim winter conditions or whenever growth stops; do not feed a dry or stressed plant.

Temperature

Warm active growth around 18–26°C; a cool bright rest around 10–15°C suits mature nobile canes, without freezing or drafts.

Humidity

Moderate to high humidity, about 50–65%, with good airflow.

Through the seasons

Nobile-type dendrobiums need a brighter, cooler, relatively dry autumn rest to flower. Reduce water and pause feeding after cane growth matures; retain old canes unless dead.

When your plant needs help

  • Root rot follows decomposed or persistently wet medium.
  • Scale and mealybugs hide beneath leaves and around flower stalks.

Pets & little ones

Safety information needs confirmation; keep out of reach.
