Water frequently; celery needs a consistently moist root zone throughout growth.
Deep, rich, moisture-retaining soil with drainage.
Prepare the bed with mature compost. This crop benefits from adequate nutrition during active growth; follow a suitable vegetable fertilizer label and your soil test rather than adding an arbitrary dose.
Plan sowing for the crop’s preferred season. Protect young plants and containers from severe frost; local conditions affect timing.
Start indoors in late winter; germination is slow. Transplant sturdy seedlings about 30 cm apart once nights are above 10°C.
Cut outer stalks as needed while retaining the crown, or harvest the whole plant at usable size.
Several cold days when young can induce bolting. Avoid chilling transplants and do not let the bed dry out.
This guide covers a cultivated garden crop. Confirm the identity and the edible part before harvesting; wash produce and keep unverified plants away from children and pets.
