Schlumbergera x buckleyi
Cacti · Planned variety
Christmas Cactus has arching flattened rounded-edge stem segments with pink tubular flowers. Its epiphytic habit calls for air around roots rather than heavy waterlogged soil.
Grow year-round in a warm Metro Vancouver home, near suitable daylight and away from cold window glass, exterior-door drafts and heating vents.

Indoor hanging plant
Support its arching, rounded-segment stems in a light, draining mix. Give filtered light and water when the surface begins to dry; it is a forest cactus.
Use a container with drainage and a secure support rated for its fully watered weight. Check moisture at the root ball and empty collected drainage water.

Water when the surface begins to dry; thoroughly wet and drain without leaving the plant continuously soggy.
Very airy organic mix with bark and perlite; adapt container or mounting to the species.
Use a complete liquid houseplant fertilizer about monthly while actively growing in spring and summer, at the product label rate. Pause in dim winter conditions or whenever growth stops; do not feed a dry or stressed plant.
Around 18–24°C during active growth; modestly cooler autumn nights can support budding, but protect from cold drafts.
Prefer moderate humid air around 50–60% with good circulation.
In autumn, provide uninterrupted long dark nights and a modest cooler spell around 15–18°C to encourage buds. Once buds form, avoid abrupt moves or drying; give a short rest after flowering.
Safety information needs confirmation; keep out of reach.
