Florist cyclamen

Cyclamen persicum

Seasonal plants · Planned variety

Meet your green friend.

Florist cyclamen is a frost-tender tuberous perennial with upswept winter flowers above silver-marked heart-shaped leaves. It differs from hardy outdoor cyclamen species and needs frost protection.

Why you’ll love it

  • Upswept flowers bring winter colour to a cool room.
  • Silver-marked foliage stays decorative between flowers.

Your care routine

Light

Bright indoor light; avoid harsh midday sun and draughts.

Watering

Water from below when the surface starts to dry, then drain; keep water out of the crown. Reduce watering as leaves die back into dormancy.

Soil & drainage

Well-drained potting mix for containers; fertile, freely draining soil in garden beds.

Fertilizer

Use balanced liquid flower fertilizer every 2–4 weeks during active growth at the product label rate; stop when dormant.

Temperature

Cool indoors, about 10–18°C; heat shortens the display.

Humidity

Ordinary room humidity with air circulation; no misting needed.

Through the seasons

In Metro Vancouver, display indoors in winter and protect during transport; this plant is not frost-hardy. Move outdoors only after frost risk passes and acclimatise gradually.

When your plant needs help

  • Crown rot if water sits at the centre
  • cyclamen mites

Pets & little ones

Toxic to cats and dogs, especially the tuber; ingestion can also upset people. Keep away from children and pets.
