Why you’ll love it

  • Large flowers create a strong winter indoor focal point.
  • Bulbs can bloom again with appropriate long-term care.

Your care routine

Light

Bright indoor light; avoid harsh midday sun and draughts.

Watering

Water sparingly until active growth begins, then when the surface dries; keep the bulb neck and saucer free of standing water.

Soil & drainage

Well-drained potting mix for containers; fertile, freely draining soil in garden beds.

Fertilizer

Use a balanced bulb fertilizer once as spring growth starts, at the label rate; do not feed a dormant bulb or corm.

Temperature

About 18–24°C during growth; slightly cooler conditions prolong open flowers.

Humidity

Ordinary room humidity with air circulation; no misting needed.

Through the seasons

In Metro Vancouver, display indoors in winter and protect during transport; this plant is not frost-hardy. Move outdoors only after frost risk passes and acclimatise gradually. After flowering, retain green leaves and feed during growth; a planned rest is needed for many reblooming schedules.

When your plant needs help

  • Bulb rot from overwatering
  • flower stalks may need support

Pets & little ones

Ingestion can harm people or pets; underground storage organs need particular care. Keep all plant parts away from pets and children.
