A space where it can thrive

Grow as a cultivated garden crop in a bed or suitably sized container. The illustrated nursery pot is a presentation, not a recommendation for the mature plant’s root space.

Your care routine

Light

Full sun in an open position.

Watering

Water during establishment and dry spells, without leaving roots waterlogged.

Soil & drainage

Well-drained soil in sun or light shade.

Temperature

Plan sowing for the crop’s preferred season. Protect young plants and containers from severe frost; local conditions affect timing.

Planting

Start fine seed in a bright place, then allow about 30 cm between plants. Protect new plants from digging or rolling cats.

Harvest

Cut leafy stems once established. Keep a healthy leafy base for regrowth.

Through the seasons

Trim after the main flowering flush. A wire guard can help protect young growth from cats.

When your plant needs help

  • Protect newly planted specimens from cats until their roots are well established.

Pets & little ones

This guide covers a cultivated garden crop. Confirm the identity and the edible part before harvesting; wash produce and keep unverified plants away from children and pets.
